IPAM – The Marketing School
This project consisted in the development of a signage system, and also in the customization of specific spaces by using oversized phrases and quotes that “make the school speak directly to people”.
The concept started, with the intention to create a direct analogy with IPAM’s visual identity claim (“I am the marketing school”), in order to continue this idea of an “active communication” with the visitor throughout the building.
IPAM’s visual identity used a typeface that had a very peculiar and unique look (Lunatix by Emigre Fonts). We thought it could be a good idea to bring this typeface to the signage system and graphics not only for the sake of coherence, but because we felt it had a huge potential to really engage with the users of this space. We also designed some customized pictograms to match this typeface’s visual character.
The signage and graphics on the walls and ceilings are exclusively black. No other color was added because we felt the black communication on the white space would create a very clean, affirmative and appealing mood inside the school. We were looking for good integration with the architecture, good legibility, and a kind of communication that could be memorable.
The final result is a space, that not only has an effective signage system, but also contains some strong points of interaction with its own “target audience” – the students, teachers and remaining staff.
