Assembleia da República
This exhibition about José Relvas (a famous parliamentarian and a major art collector) was held at “Assembleia da República” (Portuguese Parliament), throughout several different spaces.
We were asked for the exhibition project, the respective catalogue, as well as the graphic identity of the exhibition and its application in various communication and merchandising materials.
Exhibition projects at the Assembly of the Republic are always a real challenge, due to the fact that the spaces are profusely decorated with paintings and sculptures.
The concept was to create an exhibiting surface with a balance between transparency and opacity, to allow simultaneously, the exhibition of pieces from the collection and the perception of the surrounding space.
Vertical blades spaced apart, viewed at a lateral angle become opaque walls, and when seen from the front they become transparent. Thus, we are facing walls that apparently change density depending on the viewing angle.
The graphic image, predominantly in black and yellow, also included several illustrations of the Republic, photographs of the time, the lyrics of the anthem and the symbols of the national flag.
The cover of the catalog was simultaneously a poster and part of its print run was folded for this purpose, with the written information being placed to serve both purposes.
