Câmara Municipal de Mora
We were invited by the Municipality of Mora to develop the renovation project of the Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia House-Museum. The works of this plastic artist are essentially small in size and our proposal sought to enhance the importance of his works by presenting them in large dimensions and transforming the house into an expository experience of his life and work.
On the outside, a light structure was created to advertise the exhibitions with a simple replacement and update system. As the building is classified as heritage and the integrity of the facade must be respected, in order to identify it as the House-Museum, translucent screens printed with a self-portrait of the artist were placed on the windows, who thus occupies his house.
The space on the ground floor has a very small area and is reserved for the reception and presentation of the artist's life and work on a multimedia support, prepared for people with reduced mobility and who cannot access the 1st floor because there is no possibility for an elevator.
The areas of the House-Museum are small and it was necessary to look for exhibition solutions that had a great impact and were very practical, for easy updates and storage of contents.
This space has cupboards lining the walls to create storage and also serve to support communication. One of the walls is covered with a sequence of suspended screens, which present large-format images of the artist’s works, which can change positions for different decorative compositions and which can be displayed alternately on the external structure that has the same size.
The 1st floor is divided into two small rooms that present his life and work. In the first room, a large showcase/closet occupies the back wall, which brings together images, texts and objects from the artist’s life. The visitor can view content on an LCD screen and sit down to listen to recorded audio. The remaining walls of this room are occupied by large reproductions of illustrations, involving the visitor in the artist's spirit.
The next room is dedicated to the exhibition of works with the installation of a large tubular structure that occupies the space and serves as a support for the suspension of originals, screens with texts, large reproductions of works and the installation of lighting with directional projectors. Modular table display cases were also created for this room, which can be distributed in different exhibition compositions with the canvases and originals suspended, allowing for easy updates with a great impact on the presentation of the artist’s works.
