Exhibition, Product, Identity, Signage and Digital
Câmara Municipal de Abrantes
The Iberian Museum of Archeology and Art of Abrantes is located in the Convent of S. Domingos, a century building in Abrantes. Here is the municipal collection of archeology and art, such as the Estrada collection, the work of the painter Lucília Moita and the Figueiredo Ribeiro collection. They also have rooms for temporary exhibitions.
The building was rehabilitated by the architect Carrilho da Graça and our museography work was being developed, as usual, in continuous conversation, both with the architect and with the curators of the collections.
Our project started from the premise of intervening in a building classified as heritage, with an extensive area and to expose an huge collection.
The permanent exhibition allows you to discover multiple cultures and civilizations, through the artefacts and works of art on display, from prehistory to contemporary times.
We were asked for the exhibition project, which consisted of the design of several displays, the museography, the graphic project for the texts in the room, maps, timelines and also the signage of the building.
We thought of a minimal atmosphere, with our interventions in black or white, both in communication and in the displays, thus leaving space for the pieces to stand out. Customized displays tables were designed, depending on the pieces to be displayed, with glass domes, placed where necessary. The supports for the pieces, vertical and circular, are arranged at different heights to give rhythm to the composition.
In some pieces, mirrors were placed so that the hidden part could be seen. Titles, room texts and maps were printed directly on the walls, in “wallprint”, thus resulting in a more plastic image that is consistent with the location.
There are two rooms for temporary exhibitions, with works from the Figueiredo Ribeiro Contemporary Art Collection.
We also made the graphic identity of the museum with the necessary applications in leaflets and merchandising for the store. The final image resulted in a very interesting space to visit, contemporary and with a unique permanent collection.
