Portuguese Assembly of the Republic
Exhibition and environmental graphics project for the exhibition “VENTURA TERRA ARCHITECT”, a Portuguese 19th century well known architect, author of the project for the building of the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic, in which the exhibition was held. Due to financial constraints we were asked to reuse old exhibition structures on storage.
The target audience was the general public, tourists and portuguese citizens. We were asked to make a strong announcement of the exhibition, due to the importance of the architect in Portugal, and because improvement construction works had finished in the building.
For the exterior announcement, we made a “signature” of the author of the project, viewed from everyone who passed in the street. The technical solution was the cheapest material we can get, adhesive film, that worked really well, strechted and then layed down the stairs.
The exhibition presented the live and the work of the architect, in personal objects, documents, drawings and models. The division in different kind of displays adapted to each space was the solution for the constraints of the project.
The exhibition was held along different spaces of the building, lobby, stairs, etc, resulting in different kinds of displays adapted to each space and content, including original drawings and paintings, photos and objects.
We also made the exhibition catalog and various applications for the store’s merchandising. The catalog is a reproduction of a small book of notes or drawings, “Moleskine” type, enlarged to a prestige format. It resulted in a rather voluminous book.
The cover is as a Popset black paper with varnish in the lettering, taken out from his own lettering of his architectural drawings, used also in titles along the book.
The finishes, materials and graphics are inspired by the imagery and language of representation of the architect universe (objects, drawings and prints). The monospaced American Typewriter gives a pattern appearance and the colour blue (cyan) as a direct ahestetic relation, with the “blue prints”.
