Exhibition
Câmara Municipal da Guarda
P06 Studio was invited to design a temporary exhibition about the evolution of the architecture and urban planning of the city of Guarda since the 1940’s until the 1990’s to be hosted at TMG (Teatro Municipal da Guarda).
The main challenge of the project was to create a whole visual and spacial narrative that could display and communicate the reshaping and growth of the urban territory of the city in a way the could be compelling and engaging for the visitor.
To do so, our conceptual starting point consisted in making an analogy with the exhibition’s key topic — the urban territory.
The main exhibition room was organised in a way that the displays and exhibition content would be delivered to the visitor in groups of information that physically suggested an idea of “micro territory” within the room by creating specific paths for the visitor to circulate.
On the walls, a second layer was added to the project by using poetry made by Portuguese poets that evokes the memory of the city of Guarda. These graphics used a very expressive typeface, Tintinolho (a typeface designed by Jorge dos Reis, a graphic designer born in Guarda).
The graphic language of the exhibition aimed to bring a contemporary feel to balance the historical essence of the exhibition and be appealing enough to generate curiosity on people to visit the exhibition. An example of this is the poster for promotion of the exhibition.
Some time later the client also asked us to design a virtual version of the exhibition to make it available to a wider audience on digital format. This project was developed in partnership between P06 Studio and Cameraleon.
