Exhibition
Edigma
In 2023, the Aljustrel Mining Park challenged us to design an exhibition capable of honoring the mining profession and the Aljustrel mines through an innovative and immersive approach. In partnership with Edigma, the company responsible for the multimedia component, we developed an exhibition route that combines informative content with a strong sensory experience, reflecting the underground identity of the mining territory.
The main challenge was to create an experience that was accessible, engaging, and capable of sparking the interest of a diverse audience — from students to casual visitors. From the very beginning, we aimed to go beyond a traditional exhibition and to offer a truly evocative environment.
The central feature of the project is a large sculptural wall that resembles a cross-section of a pyritic rock, where the displayed objects appear embedded like fossils in the stone. The textual information and titles, also carved into the "massif," reinforce this geological narrative and the visual coherence of the ensemble. The use of the color orange, which envelops the entire exhibition space, evokes the characteristic tones of oxidized pyritic rock, enhancing the visitor's sensory immersion.
The geological history of the region is presented in another area of the space, on a large wall in warm tones, where a selection of texts and images help tell the story over time.
The exhibition route ends with a passage where visitors are given flashlights. In this corridor, the sound of the miners’ anthem fills the space. As they shine their lights, the hymn’s lyrics reveal themselves on the wall, painted with luminescent ink. A small statue of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, is also unveiled — a symbolic moment that honors the devotion and effort of generations of workers.
