Interiors, Signage
Ciência Viva
'Skin' was the first of four interventions that P 06 made at the Knowledge Pavilion, a well known science centre in Lisbon. This project consisted in designing the interiors and signage for a multipurpose room, the foyer of the building, and was developed in partnership with the studio, JLCG arquitectos.
The intention, due to how this space is used, was to create a texture for a perforated wall with acoustic and light effects.
The concept applied was the ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Exchange), analogous to the museum’s intentions to share information.
By creating different texture densities with larger and smaller cuts, we were able to control the acoustic performance and light emanating into the room.
The white LED lighting between the wall and the “skin” was balanced with natural light.
This project won the most prestigious international design award, the Red Dot Grand Prix. Today it is used occasionally as a setting for television programmes.
