Assembleia da República
As part of the commemorations of the bicentennial of the first Portuguese Constitution, P 06 was invited to create a temporary exhibition to be held in the Passos Perdidos room in the Assembly of the Republic.
Considering the grandeur of the Passos Perdidos room, an antechamber to the Sessions room where the plenary sessions of the Assembly of the Republic are held, a documentary exhibition was developed where simplicity and sobriety were the focus.
The exhibition features two huge vertical planes and a horizontal plane connected by a huge golden leaf that runs through the Passos Perdidos room, presenting a collection of documents dedicated to the 1822 Constitution.
The golden metallic foil connects the exhibition to the room's decorative elements, reflecting the surrounding environment and toning the space with a golden glow.
In the vertical planes, with the intention of highlighting the main pieces of the documentary exhibition, the Portuguese Constitution of 1822 and the study for the canvas “The Constituent Courts of 1821”, positioned in the lunette of the Sessions room, are exposed face to face.
Horizontally, the exhibition is divided into 3 large sections, “Preparatory Works”, “The Constitution of 1822” and “Innovative Articles in the Constitution of 1822”.
In the identity of the exhibition, two fonts were used to create a strong contrast between them. One of the fonts is Parnaso, from the Portuguese typographer Mário Feliciano, this font was used only in capital letters in order to mirror the rigid nature that is characteristic of laws. In contrast to Parnaso, we have Ventura font, from the Portuguese typographer Dino dos Santos, which invokes the period in which the first constitution was created.
In the catalog, the identity of the exhibition was propagated through strong contrast between blocks of justified texts.
This exhibition, in addition to commemorating the Constitution, marks the return of the public to the Assembly of the Republic, being the first exhibition inaugurated in Passos Perdidos room after the pandemic.
